IBM Storage - Online Pricing Available

Ever wondered what the entry level storage offering from IBM may cost? Well, pricing is now available online. It doesn’t cover everything, you need to search a little but here’s how to do it.

Probably one of the biggest drawbacks to online information is the ‘click here for pricing’ conundrum.  Like everyone else, I suspect, I like to do my homework and research products and services as thoroughly as possible before making any kind of decision to purchase.  I personally don’t think it’s too much to expect some indicative pricing only to find, as I drill further down, I need to leave my contact details so a sales representative can get in touch.  ‘Click here for pricing’, no thank you.   On the odd occasion I do leave contact details someone very rarely gets in touch or, even worse, decides to upsell.

Imagine if I was researching my options for Storage.  I have a good idea of what I need to satisfy my requirements, but I wonder how much this would likely cost.  Where can I get such information without leaving all of my contact details.  I am really not ready to be subjected to a Sales call (interrogation) to include subjects such as ‘Big Data’ ‘Cloud Ready’ ‘Software Defined Storage’ and many more?

Well finally IBM has it’s act together and will provide such a service for the Storage platform.  The following link takes you to that exact page: – IBM Storage Pricing.

Invest in data. Save on storage

At first glance this is a less than inspiring start, we even have a link in the bottom right hand corner inviting us to talk!!!  The only indication of pricing is in the smallest font possible and suggest it starts from £200 per month.  Well then, put me down for two!

But bear with me and I will show you where the true value of this webpage resides.  Scroll to about a quarter of the way down the page and you begin to see the example configurations with pricing.

Here is three of the four configurations IBM have provided pricing for. You read that correctly, 4 configurations. More on that further down the page.

What is more, we can drill down into these examples and further understand the components within the configuration.

Not an altogether bad start but only 4 options? Not quite…. Scroll further down this page and you will find another three configurations, including the ‘Best Seller’. I would have expected the best seller to be on the first page but what do I know.

All in all, 7 configurations to give you an idea of what to expect when pricing IBM Storage. They are all in the entry level range of IBM’s portfolio so for bigger configurations you really will have to engage with someone but at least you can be bringing IBM into the conversation with a good idea on price point. Maybe at some point in the future there will be an online configurator that will allow you to tailor exact solutions to your own needs but then what would happen to the added value of engaging with your Business Partner?

To finish there are a couple of things that need mentioning. The configurations do not take into account your current workload demands so you would be best served in understanding the current IOPS you drive and how the storage you are looking at will deliver this (and more). Pricing includes warranty only so any workload that requires maintenance support outside of Monday to Friday (just about everything) will attract some additional costs.

Oh, and one last thing, should you need further information the just complete our contact form, I can’t wait to discuss ‘Big Data’ ‘Cloud Ready’ ‘Software Defined Storage’ and many more buzz words with you…
