IBM Announce IBM POWER 9 Servers

IBM has recently announced the launch of two new IBM POWER9 server models, the S914 and the S924. To help you with your IBM upgrade path we have decided to show you an illustrative example, comparing the CPW ratings of a IBM POWER S914 and a S814 server.

IBM has released AIX and VIOS iFixes for Spectre and Meltdown

IBM has released the following fixes for AIX and VIOS in response to CVE-2017-5715, CVE-2017-5753, and CVE-2017-5754.

IBM i 7.1 will be withdrawn on the 30th of April 2018

IBM has announced that support for IBM i 7.1 will be withdrawn from the 30th of April 2018. IBM has not yet announced if there will be an option for extended support so it is recommended for you to have a IBM i upgrade plan in place if you are on IBM i 7.1 or below.

IBM announce hardware maintenance withdrawal dates for IBM POWER 6 & 7 servers

IBM has announced hardware maintenance end of support dates for both IBM POWER 6 and 7 servers. IBM POWER 6 end of support date is the 31st March 2019 and IBM POWER 7 end of support date is the 30th September 2019. Click Here to see what models are impacted by the change.

AIX 5.3 WPM for AIX 7 End of Support

Many clients have a subset of applications that are still dependent on a supported AIX 5.3 environment. Effective April 30th 2019, IBM will withdraw support for AIX 5.3 WPM for AIX 7.

1. Stay as is with no support for any current stand-alone AIX 5.3 systems which is already the case

2. Move to an AIX 7 WPAR environment for the 5.3 systems, still no support for the actual 5.3 system itself but support for the WPAR software until 30/04/2019

3. Use the native 5.3 LPAR on a POWER 8 server.
