Remote Working

Chilli prides itself on being able to fix clients problems and provide a solution no matter where we are and what time of day it is. This philosophy can be implemented through our ability to fix a variety of problems through using a VPN connection.

Chilli uses remote working on a day-to-day basis to ensure clients boxes are kept working and problems are solved before even occuring. Through remote working, the amount of time spent travelling to clients is significantly reduced and therefore Chilli produces less carbon emissions as transport is not needed to fix problems.

IBM BladeCenter

Chilli has noticed the significance in energy savings in implemented the IBM BladeCenter as it offers significantly better performance-per-watt than equivalent HP systems. With this knowledge, Chilli recommended the BladeCenter to a client expaining both the long-term financial benefits on energy savings as well as being green and protecting the environment. The client recognised the benefits and purchased the BladeCenter technology for their business.

Proof in the blade - Edison Group, an independent technology analysis and consulting firm, compared the power consumption of IBM BladeCenter with a comparable HP BladeSystem blade server configuration and found that both the IBM BladeCenter H and E chassis provide dramatic performance-per-watt advantages when compared to an equivalently configured HP BladeSystem c7000.

As an IBM business partner, Chilli IT understands and agrees with IBM's 'Green IT' philiosophy for implementing greener solutions into their products. This includes the IBM Active Energy Manager and IBM Power & Cooling System.

Chilli has worked with IBM's active energy manager through implementing the Blade System for a client and reinforces that not only do the blade systems provide better performance for the client but the environmental benefits for the client results in savings on powering the machines.

IBM Active Energy Manager

IBM Systems Director Active Energy Manager measures, monitors, and manages the energy components built into IBM systems enabling a cross-platform management solution. Active Energy Manager extends the scope of energy management to include facility providers to enable a more complete view of energy consumption within the datacenter.
Active Energy Manager is an IBM Director extension that supports the following endpoints: IBM BladeCenter, POWER, System x, and System z servers.

• Monitoring functions include power trending, thermal trending, PDU+ support and support for facility providers.
• Management functions include power capping and power savings mode.

The benefits of IBM's Active Energy Manager solution is the fact it helps customers monitor energy consumption to allow better utilisation of available energy resources. The application software enables customers to trend actual energy consumption and corresponding thermal loading of IBM Systems running in their environment with their applications. This helps customers:

• Allocate less power and cooling infrastructure to IBM servers
• Lower power usage on select IBM servers
• Plan for the future by viewing trends of power usage over time
• Determine power usage for all components of a rack
• Retrieve temperature and power information via wireless sensors
• Collect alerts and events from facility providers related to power and cooling equipment
